The Community Conference of Springfield Schools' Parents Group organized a district-wide Haiti Relief Effort collection and the Florence Gaudineer Middle School Student Council organized an event called Hoops for Haiti to raise funds to help Haiti's Earthquake victims. Thanks to the overwhelming support of the community the events were extremely successful in raising much needed funds for the relief effort. The two groups presented checks to Christine C. Hodde, Executive Director of the Summit Area Chapter of the American Red Cross on behalf of our community and the FMG Student Council. Springfield's Middle School is one of two schools in New Jersey to receive grant money.
Florence Gaudineer Middle School is being honored for its poetry, which is somewhat ironic, considering how difficult it is to find a word that rhymes with Guadineer. The school is one of two New Jersey schools be awarded a $250 grant from an international competition sponsored by the Utah-based group Creative Communication. The grant is awarded to 50 schools throughout the United States and Canada. Gaudineer qualified for the grant earlier by having over 15 student-written poems published in the Creative Communication’s annual poetry anthology.
