Police Charge Two Men with Shoplifting Following Chase

Two men reportedly stole baby formula and allegedly found with crack pipes.

Two men charged with shoplifting from the CVS pharmacy on Morris Ave. in Springfield led police on a multi-town chase last week. On Tuesday, Aug. 14, CVS employees contacted police, reporting that shoplifters had just fled the store. Corporal Danielle Kahora, on Morris Ave. when the alert went out, responded. Upon her arrival, witnesses pointed out a man walking in the parking lot, saying he was one of two men who had run from the store activating the door sensor alarm. The man, Robert Banks, 43, of Newark, fled when Corporal Kahora ordered him to stop. Kahora chased Banks on foot into Millburn where he reportedly stripped off his outer shirt and tried to hide among the factory buildings on Bleeker Street.  Banks was apprehended with the …

Armed Robbery at Springfield Gas Station

Judging from the police report, the gas station attendant didn’t even have to time to ask “cash or credit” before the driver drew his gun. Police say that at 8:41 p.m. on Monday, June 27, a white 4-door Jeep Cherokee pulled into the BP gas station at the intersection of Morris Avenue and Meisel Avenue and parked by the pumps. When the gas station attendant removed the car’s gas cap, the driver stuck a handgun in his stomach and told him to give him all his money. The 50-year-old male attendant complied, handing all the money he had on him to the man police described as a heavyset bearded black male between 30 and 40 years old between 5’7” and 5’9.” The thief searched the victim’s pockets for additional money while warning “don’t look at me…

Police Suspect Link Between Springfield and Belleville Robberies

Armed robbery committed hour and a half after violent Springfield incident.

Springfield and Belleville police are investigating whether the same culprits committed robberies in the two towns. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, two armed men robbed the South Springfield Ave. convenience store Krauser's. The men, described as black men wearing ski masks, made off with cash and lottery tickets after pistol-whipping two clerks. The men were believed to have driven out of Springfield on route 22. Approximately 90 minutes later, two men in ski masks and carrying pistols entered a Bellevilke liquor store, stole wallets, and emptied the store's safe and two cash registers of about $3,000 in cash. Violent Robbery at Krauser's

Police seek suspects after robbery of South Springfield Ave Store on Monday night.

Springfield police are seeking two suspects following an armed robbery at a convenience store that sent an employee to the hospital. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, two black men armed with handguns and wearing ski masks entered the South Springfield Ave. convenience store. Police say the first man hopped the counter and pistol-whipped a 25-year-old clerk. The second robber pistol-whipped a 36-year-old employee before forcing that employee to open the cash register. The men took the money from the cash register, packs of cigarettes and a large amount of scratch-off NJ lottery tickets.  Police say the two robbers are both black males with dark complexions in their early 20s. Police Arrest Teens for Illegal Scavenger Hunt

Participants allegedly found with lists, stolen merchandise, including license plates from police vehicles.

Seven Cranford High School students were arrested on drug and theft charges in Springfield after allegedly stealing road signs and license plates. Springfield police say the students were taking part in an illegal scavenger hunt, and that the game is an annual Thanksgiving eve tradition for students. In the game, points are reportedly awarded for stolen property. According to a Springfield police report, at 2:20 am on Wednesday, Nov. 24., Springfield police Officer Anthony Reimer noticed a car with four passengers in a deserted industrial area by Fadem Road, off Route 22.  He ordered the driver to pull the car over when he noticed motor-vehichle code violations on the auto. Have you noticed that there have been less political lawn signs in the Township than there were a week ago? Springfield Democrats have, and they believe the Republicans have been taking them down. Springfield GOP leaders have denied tampering with the signs.   Former Township Committee member and Democratic party chair David Barnett said a tipster informed him that a number of  lawn signs for Democratic candidates Rich Huber and David Amlen and independent candidate Bart Fraenkel had gone missing over the weekend. The signs, Barnett said, were uprooted from lawns on Mount View Road and tossed over a fence. Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing Springfield Bank

When arrested in January, robber faced down police in seven-hour standoff in West New York.

Philip A. Tatis, 44, a Colombian citizen residing in West New York, NJ, has pled guilty in Federal Court to robbing a Springfield Investor's Saving Bank in March, 2009. Court documents say Tatis walked into the Morris Ave. bank on March 2, 2009, during a major snowfall.  He approached a bank teller with a note he had kidnapped a bank customer. The note said that if the teller did not hand over $30,000 in less than two minutes, Tatis's partner would shoot the customer. The teller complied with the note and Tatis fled the bank with the money. In reality, Tatis did not have a partner and had not taken a hostage. Police Arrest Three Women on Shoplifting Charges Outside Sports Authority

Allegedly stole shoes from the sporting goods store and were found to merchandise from neighboring stores.

This week, Springfield police arrested three women for allegedly shoplifting shoes from Sports Authority on Rte 22. Further investigation suggested that the women were responsible for a series of shoplifting thefts from stores throughout the area.  On Monday, Aug. 9, Sports Authority employees contacted Springfield police to report a shoplifting attempt in progress. When officers Steve Hollyfield and Anthony Voorhees arrived at the store, they reportedly found three women out, discarding stolen sneakers in the parking lot. Almuhadil Younger, 25 of East Orange was apprehended in the parking lot. Nicole Goshay, 26 of Newark, and Kyshal Ivery, 26 of Newark, attempted to flee the parking lot in a motor vehicle and were stopped by police. …

Panic at the Drive Thru: Machine Gun Toting Carjacker Arrested After Burger King Crash

Newark man arrested in Springfield following alleged multi-town crime spree and chase.

Westfield police arrested a machine gun-carrying alleged armed robber/carjacker early Friday morning following a multi-town car chase that ended with a single-car crash in front of a Route 22 Burger King in Union. Westfield Police Lt. Edward Maguire said Denzel Wright started his crime spree in the early hours of Tuesday morning by robbing a Roselle gas station. Following the robbery, the 19-year-old Newark native reportedly crossed the street, where police say he tried and failed to rob a second gas station. Wright reportedly used a Mac 10 machine gun with a high capacity magazine in both incidents. Police: Thieves Used Credit Card Stolen From Car

Reportedly used the card at a Watchung Supermarket.

Police have charged two Elizabeth men with stealing numerous items form a parked car, including a credit card that they used in a supermarket in Watchung. Freddy Perez, Jr. and Juan Moran, both 34, allegedly broke into a car parked at the Echo Park shopping plaza on rte. 22 on April 2. Police say they used a credit card stolen from the car immediately after the alleged theft. After reviewing video footage reportedly showing the two men using the card in Watchung, Watchung and Springfield police identified the two men as the persons responsible for the April theft.
