In judge's ruling on case, Margaret Bandrowski wins election by three votes.
The lawsuit over Springfield's 2012 election has ended with Democratic candidate Margaret Bandrowski for Township Committee holding her seat by a three-vote margin. James Foerst, the attorney for Republican candidate Jerry Fernandez, argued that because of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the election—namely the consequences of tropical storm sandy—the results were unrepresentative of the will of the people. "There was a superstorm," he said during the case. "It was unprecedented. It's clear we have a unique circumstance." After alleging that people were voting illegally, he said the election in Springfield had either an "incorrect" or "indeterminate" vote. Attorney Bob Renauld, representing Bandrowski, argued against the case …

Both Democrats in race win seats.
According to the official count of Springfield's ballots by Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi, Margaret Bandrowski has edged ahead of incumbent Jerry Fernandez by five votes. The final tally shows victories for the two Democrats in the race for the two open seats on the township committee, David Barnett and Margaret Bandrowski. The two incumbent Republicans, Marc Krauss and Jerry Fernandez, fell short of the votes needed to attain second terms. With Barnett and Bandrowski on the Committee, Springfield Democrats have a four to one majority. The only remaining Republican on the committee is current Mayor Ziad Shehady. The race was close and drawn out due to voting complications caused by tropical storm Sandy. Unofficial numbers had given …

The storm of the century ruined their homes and forced many to vote elsewhere, and even out of town. But it didn't keep too many people away from the polls
At the Jersey Shore, the Election Day routines were always simple; perhaps just a little bit hectic: Mothers and fathers dropped the kids off at school, went to work and, somehow, tried to fit voting in between. For years, and well into the 1990s, they went to their schools and recreation centers in Point Boro, Long Branch, Brick and elsewhere to pick candidates, using the old-fashioned machines with the tiny pull-down levers. The lever they usually pulled, just about two-thirds of the time, was for Republicans, right on down the line. The whole thing felt so hectic then, trying to squeeze in a short visit to the rec center and not be late for work. But it all seems so easy now, because there was nothing routine about this past week, a …
Vote split between Democrats and Republicans; final result will depend on provisional ballots.
With all districts reporting but with provisional and email ballots unaccounted for, the race for the two contested seats on the Springfield Township Committee is split between Democrats and Republicans. While Springfield residents preferred Obama over Romney 3,552 to 2,857, they did not show a strong preference for Democrats or Republicans in the local race. “The difference between Obama and Romney is about 600 votes,” Committee member Marc Krauss said before the final votes were tallied. “The difference between us and them is like 100 votes.” Democratic challenger David Barnett garnered the most votes, tailed by Incumbent Republican Jerry Fernandez Margaret Bandrowski and Marc Krauss placed third and fourth, respectively. Bandrowski is …

Once again, Democrats sweep freeholder race.
There were few surprises as the results were tallied in the race for three seats on the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, in which the Democratic party once again swept the GOP. Six candidates were competing for three openings on the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders including: Democrats Alexander Mirabella of Fanwood, who currently serves as chairman of the Freeholder Board; Mohamed S. Jalloh, of Roselle who is finishing up his first term and Bruce H. Bergen of Springfield, who joined the Democratic ticket this year. Republicans challengers included Diane Barabas of Westfield; Stephen Kozlovich of Union and Krzysztof Chris T. Nowak of Cranford. The Democrats have held complete control of all seats on the board for nearly …
Incumbent Lance defeated Democratic challenger Upendra Chivukula.
Republican Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) will be heading back to Washington to begin his third term after defeating Democratic challenger Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula. Lance won 58 percent of the vote, with Chivukula capturing just 39 percent. Many believed the race was Lance's to lose, as the 7th Congressional district spans a largely Republican territory that includes Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties as well as parts of Morris. Throughout his campaign, Lance stressed the need for reform to President Barack Obama's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. He has also opposed the president's stimulus package. Locally, Lance has been an advocate for towns that faced devastation in the wake of Hurricane Irene. He …
Voters in New Jersey on Tuesday cast their ballot for Barack Obama, giving him the state's 14 electoral votes.
Barack Obama won New Jersey’s 14 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times. Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in New Jersey. The state has typically been a Democratic stronghold in recent presidential elections.
President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.
Update: This article was updated at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 7 with quotes from Gov. Chris Christie. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." "The task of perfecting our union moves forward. It moves forward because of you," Obama told supporters in his acceptance speech shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. "It moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression. The spirit that has lifted …
An introduction and an argument for the commission.
Hello Springfield Residents, My name is Jim Bonacorda, and I am volunteering to be a member of the Springfield Charter Study Commission, which will appear as a public question on the November 6th ballot. My wife, Karen, and I reside at 27 Marion Avenue. During the 22 years that we have lived in Springfield, we have seen an increase in both the number and complexity of issues that the Township faces. This is why I have decided to volunteer and become more involved in Township matters. I have been involved with the WE_SpringfieldNJ group, which focuses on local and regional flood mitigation issues. Karen and I are also members of the Community Emergency Response Tram (CERT). Residents who experienced severe damage to their homes from flooding …

Ditto as bart says lol. If all of you so called Ziad fans are posting under fake or assumed names explain to me why the turf field boondoggle error made by the BOE and land use lawyer from 2012 will cost the town of Springfield over 1 million in undeveloped land never mind the tax money that will no longer come in? Its front page news right in the local source. Ill be glad to hear your dissenting…   more ›
