Message From Charter Commission

Commission provides updates on meetings and other information.

The residents of Springfield voted to establish a Charter Study Commission.  The five elected commissioners held an organizational meeting on December 10th. At that meetiing a Chairman was selected (former Mayor Hugh Keffer) and the hours/place of meetings were decided.  During the next eight months the Commission will accomplish the following:Study the present form of government by interviewing present and past public officials, civic leaders, and media representatives. The Commission can recommend one of the following: 1. the current form of government be retained and unchanged; 2. the current form of government be retained, but with certain modifications;3. the form of government be changed to one of the four plans under the Faulkner …

Charter Commission: Whichever form of government is determined to be most suitable, make sure you require updated, written public disclosures, at least annually, on all Council members regulatory disciplinary history and other conflicts of interest. November Ballot Will Feature Charter Commission Question

Voters can decide if Springfield needs a change in government.

In November, Springfield voters will decide whether the township needs a new form of government. At the June 12 Springfield Township Committee meeting, officials passed an ordinance asking voters whether they want to a charter commission to study the Springfield’s government. The question will be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot. Thursday, Sep. 6 is the deadline for petitions for who would be a member of the Charter Commission. According to the ordinance, a copy of which is attached to this article, the charter commission would be composed of five members who would study Springfield’s form of government and make recommendations on the government’s future following a nine-month study. I agree with you MJ. This town carters to the few, and the loudest are labeled the majority. Revitalize all the roads for the amount spend on a field that only a few kids will be playing... oh, but yeah, a few kids of parents who are really committed to sports, and that's great, but those who cannot afford the increases should not have to sacrifice for it.   more ›

Springfield Officials Consider Charter Commission

Commission would recommend changes for form and function of township government.

Does Springfield need a new form of government? Officials are considering putting that question to voters. At the May 22 Springfield Township Committee meeting, officials presented an ordinance asking voters whether they want to a charter commission to study the Springfield’s government. If passed, the question would be on the November 6, 2012 General Election ballot. While some officials questioned the need for a charter commission and wondered about its implications, supporters of the ordinance stressed that the vote was the first step in an exploratory process.
