Gary Hecht Honored for Volunteerism

Local chiropractor recognized for service to community.

A search for Gary Hecht’s name on Springfield Patch tells a story of service to the Springfield community.  So it came as no surprise to learn that the Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce had named Hecht volunteer of the year. Hecht has long been a prominent member of Springfield’s volunteer and philanthropic community. In all of his efforts, he has been quick to credit the Springfield community for their support, as his comment on a Patch article after a toy collection illustrates. Thank you to the generous people of Springfield. We collected countless toys and helped more than 70 families and over 200 of Springfield's children received multiple new toys and games. There were hugs and tears and many stories of hardship shared. …

Springfield Rotary Delivers Thanksgiving Baskets

Twenty Springfield families received packages of donated food and other goods.

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, Springfield Rotarians made their annual food Thanksgiving basket delivery. This year was the largest one yet, with 20 families receiving full dinners donated by local businesses. The number of families receiving the donations swelled this year from 15 in 2010 with baskets going to a number of flood victims in addition to the families usually served in the  The recently opened supermarket Seabra’s and wine sellers Stew Leonard's provided the food and other items in the basket. Donated items ranged from cooking oil to toilet paper. One Rotarian described the goods in each basket as enough groceries for a week. Local charitable organization Springfield HOPE supported the delivery.

That's nice of them. I have been meaning to go to the Seabra store to check it out, but am not sure what kind of store it is? What is the Rotary club anyway? Have also been thinking of checking out clubs in the area. Do they do volunteer work for people? I would love to do that.   more ›
