Photo: New Bakery Coming to Morris Ave.

The street looks to be getting sweeter.

A new bakery, Cake Kreations, looks to be setting up shop on Morris Ave. in downtown Springfield. No word yet on how it will look inside, but the name and sign sure are enticing.  Update: A Patch reader pointed us to the bakery's website, which has a lot of tantalizing information and pictures.

Red Light Camera Testing Underway

Cameras installed on intersection of Morris and Maple Aves.

Motorists, take care. The days of rolling through red lights unnoticed are over. Springfield has installed and activated traffic safety cameras to record red light runners in all directions of the intersection of Morris and Maple Avenues, an intersection designated as dangerous by township and New Jersey Department of Transportation officials. Springfield officials have planned to accurately adjust the system to prevent incorrect citations. Summonses will be issued starting May 18. “We’ve identified several critical intersections where disregard of …

Apparently the system works. I got a citation for actually stopping at the intersection, then turned right on red, not sure if I was able to do so because I didn't see a sign addressing the issue. My question is, "Where is the 'no turn on red' posted"? It was certainly NOT visible to me and being unfamiliar with the location, I presumed that I could turn at that intersection after stopping at the…   more ›

What Should Go Here?

A new Patch column solicits reader ideas for filling vacant lots.

It's no secret that downtown Springfield has more than its share of empty storefronts. Patch wants to know what you think is the best way to fill them.  We're starting with a Morris Ave. storefront whose former tenants didn't move far. 246 Morris Ave. was the home to Chinese food restaurant the Tomato Garden until the owners moved the shop across the road to 239 Morris Ave. The person answering the phone at the current Tomato Garden couldn't say when the restaurant moved but the storefront has been vacant since for at least two years.  What do you think should go in now? Let us know in the comments. When we get enough answers, we'll put it to a vote in a poll.

a starbucks or burger type place like a smashburger are excellent ideas. the problem is the properties are so poorly kept that i can understand why its so hard to attract new businesses in town. the downtown springfield area needs major work. the owners of the propertys in question should fix their own property if they want tennants to stay here and attract new ones. also the parking situation is…   more ›
