Springfield Week in Review

A look back at notable goings on in the township in recent days.

On Tuesday, May 15, Zakiyyah Shakoor, 37, of Wilboro was found to have over $50,000 worth of heroin hidden in her car during a routine traffic stop on route 22. Shakoor reportedly broke into tears after officers asked for her license and other motor vehicle papers. Police reportedly found a pound and a half of heroin crammed inside a fast food restaurant paper bag in the car. The Springfield Township Committee are considering making dramatic changes to the township’s board of health. Under the proposed changes, the health committee would be composed of the township committee members and two residents. A look back at the notable Township goings on in recent days.

Trailing by two and three outs away from elimination in the Union County Tournament underdog Dayton did what they do best: fight. The Bulldogs put across seven runs in the top of the seventh on their way to a 7-2 upset victory over Governor Livingston in the quarterfinals of the Union County Tournament. In a classic pitchers duel, Dayton pitcher Tommy Losito pounded the strike zone in an impressive display of command and outlasted the Governor Livingston team to pick up the win in a gritty complete game win. At the most recent Township Committee meeting, Springfield Environmental Committee Chair Denise DeVone honored the winners of her group's annual design contest. Tickets for Romney in Bernardsville: $5K a Plate The law office of Bernardsville resident Ed Deutsch confirmed that next Wednesday afternoon he will host a fundraiser at his home for Republican state Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, running against U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez.
