Letter to the Editor: From a Prospective Charter Commissioner

An introduction and an argument for the commission.

Hello Springfield Residents, My name is Jim Bonacorda, and I am volunteering to be a member of the Springfield Charter Study Commission, which will appear as a public question on the November 6th ballot.  My wife, Karen, and I reside at 27 Marion Avenue.  During the 22 years that we have lived in Springfield, we have seen an increase in both the number and complexity of issues that the Township faces.  This is why I have decided to volunteer and become more involved in Township matters.  I have been involved with the WE_SpringfieldNJ group, which focuses on local and regional flood mitigation issues. Hello!  My name is Geri Ann Bujnowski and I am asking for your vote on November 6th in the hopes of becoming a member of the proposed Springfield Charter Study Commission. I have been living in the Township for the past 19 years.  I am married with 2 sons.  I have become more involved in the community since my boys are older.  I have been regularly attending the Township Committee meetings for the last few years and currently, I am chairing the Springfield Improvement Team.  It is an organization recently formed to encourage volunteerism in town through senior outreach, beautification, and community goodwill. I decided to run for a seat on the proposed 5-member Charter Study Commission because I felt that there was a lot of misinformation…

i voted against the study as this is just another politcal ploy by ziad to try & become an eventual full time mayor. just what this town needs NOT is another professional politician whose only interests are for himself and not for the citizens of springfield. no offense.   more ›

I have lived in Springfield for thirty-six years and have seen Township Committeemen come and go. Democrat or Republican, they have generally tended to the Town's business, served their terms of office and disappeared from public view or faded into the background of the political scene, having gained little but the satisfaction of having served the community. Today, however, we are faced with a new phenomenon: a young politically career driven mayor who seems intent on using Springfield to serve his personal ambition by changing the form of the Township's government.
