Online Registration, Payment Software for Rec Department Approved

Capturepoint.com allows users to register and pay for recreation activities online.

The Township Committee approved the purchase of Capturepoint software for the Recreation Department at its Tuesday evening meeting.

The software, used by many neighboring communities, allows users to register and pay for activities online, which aids administrators by reducing paperwork, data processing, filing, copying, printing and reporting.

When the resolution was introduced, Committeeman Ziad Andrew Shehady asked that more research be done before putting it to a vote as he believed there could be some other, less expensive options available.

Township Administrator Anthony Cancro said he and the Township Chief Financial Officer Michael Quick did their research and spoke with nearby communities that utilize the software and believe Capturepoint will increase operations and efficiency and are eager to move a more secure platform.

Cancro told Patch following the meeting that the implementation cost is approximately $5,800 and annual charges are estimated at $5,000.

Shehady made a motion to table the resolution but it was not seconded as Deputy Mayor Richard Huber and Committee member Margaret Bandrowski said they trust the research that Cancro and Quick conducted, adding that Quick "watches every dime" the Township spends.

Committeeman David Barnett abstained from the vote as he said he may have a connection to the privately-held, Ridgewood-based company. Shehady voted against the purchase.

The Recreation Department will begin the transition and necessary training in the coming weeks, Cancro said.
