A fun run for children nine and under will follow

The previous two runs raised $25,000 for SEF, which "strives to keep our children and teachers on the leading edge of learning," according to the Foundation's website, which states, "We, like many other communities across New Jersey and the nation, are responding to increasing needs and decreased funding with creativity and commitment. The mission of SEF is to provide a centralized source of funds and resources to assist the Springfield Public School District to enhance and maintain the overall quality of education. The funds raised from this event will help support our teacher mini-grant program and our annual leadership scholarship."

Last year's event raised over $12,000 which was put back into the classrooms as teachers used the grant funds to enhance art and mathematics projects.

“As we plan for the 3rd annual Sprint for Springfield Schools 5K Run/Walk, we are so humbled that this event has become a great kick-off to the school year and that it benefits the community on so many levels,” said Steve Wolcott, Springfield Education Foundation Race Coordinator. “All the funds from this event go directly back to the schools to provide some of the extra enhancements in the classrooms as well as provide scholarships to graduating seniors. Local businesses, and even some national ones, have really made the Sprint for Springfield Schools an event that we can all be proud of and encourages young and old to participate.”
