CrossFit Veracity Moves From Springfield to Summit

Workouts can be modified in intensity to accommodate each individual's needs.

CrossFit Veracity, offering 45-minute workouts aimed enhancing an individual's proficiency at all physical tasks, recently moved from Springfield to 2 Walnut St. in Summit.

Owner and coach Leonardo Munoz, who began with the CrossFit franchise in 2009, said he spent a year looking for a larger space to accommodate his growing business.

The fitness guru, who previously served as an assistant varsity soccer coach at Oratory Prep, explained that CrossFit is “the sport of fitness” and said he has watched as the workout has enabled members to get stronger and faster, shaving tens of minutes off their marathon times while shortening their recovery periods.

Among the successes he’s witnessed, Munoz said people have lost 15 percent body fat, while others, including himself, have dropped pounds and feel great.

"Some people think it can be too intense, but everything can be modified," explained Munoz, who said beginners start with an introductory series that helps them achieve the base they need to move forward with the program.

Workouts constantly vary, Munoz said, and include functional movements that imitate patterns found in day-to-day life while incorporating cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.

Beth, a CrossFit devotee, said the workout allows you to be fit “in every way.”

"Your balance is better and you feel strong," she said.

Other members said the workout is fun and the fact that it constantly changes keeps it interesting.

Munoz offers a free trial class to those interested in checking out CrossFit. Months of unlimited workouts vary in price depending on the package purchased.
