Springfield Entrepreneur Takes Anxiety Out of Technology

Computara offers one-on-one computer lessons and consulting.

Lifelong Springfield resident Tara Grey might not have realized she was getting a jumpstart on her career when she began tutoring at the age of 15.

A Jonathan Dayton High School student at the time, Grey was a math tutor when she received a call asking if she'd be willing to help someone learn more about computers and technology. Grey readily agreed and went on to pursue her passion, graduating from Kean University with top honors and a Bachelors Degree in Mathematical Sciences. Receiving a certificate in Graphic Design, she spent two years working as a web designer for a New Jersey-based design firm before starting her own business.

Computara offers one-on-one, in-home or in-office computer help for those interested in just getting started as well as advanced learners wishing to further their understanding of technology.

"My specialty is in teaching beginners and senior citizens, as well as optimizing technology for disabled clients," Grey explained.

Many people feel very anxious when it comes to new technology, the Springfield business owner said. Some are afraid they might break their computers, while others struggle with touch screen capabilities. No matter the issue, Grey said her patient approach and ability to explain all things hi-tech in layman's terms takes the stress out of learning.

"She is a wonderful provider of a critically-needed service and is the most patient and caring tutor/teacher I have yet to meet," noted fellow Springfield resident and satisfied customer Amy Goldsmith Charmatz.

Grey said during the past decade she has not only helped clients connect with friends and relatives by introducing them to social networking but also she has developed personal relationships with her students, who keep coming back to Computara to learn more.

"I love my clients dearly," Grey said, "and I love what I do."

The tutor, who is constantly researching new techonological advancements and the latest developments in gadgetry to stay ahead of the curve, is also available for initial computer setups and installation of software, upgrades and updates.

Just in time for the holiday season, gift cards, good for a hour lesson, are available. Fees are charged on a per-hour basis and range from $85 to $125, depending on several factors, including lesson content and traveling distance.
