Photos: Teen Arts Show At The Library

The 2010 Union County Teen Arts Exhibit debuts at Springfield's public library.

What's on the mind of Union County's teens? Judging from their art, they're preoccupied with "Alice in Wonderland," tribal masks, bygone movie stars and in some cases, their schools and themselves.

The Teen Arts Traveling Exhibit, a 62-piece collection chosen from the 700-plus works shown at the Union County Teen Arts Festival held in March at Union County College in Cranford, was installed at the first stop on its tour, the Springfield library.

Though created by high and middle school age artists, the works are remarkably accomplished. Many of the paintings and sketches show an advanced attention to detail, particularly a painting showing characters from "Alice in Wonderland" and a crisp portrait of Audrey Hepburn.

Springfield is represented by three artists: Gaudineer Middle school student Kevin Wheat, and Dayton High school's Alexa Perlstein and Remy Schneier, who contributed a striking manipulated image of Jonathan Dayton High School.

The art work will be on display at Springfield's public library until June 10.
