New Walgreens Breaks Ground

Springfield officials and members of the business community help kick off construction of new pharmacy.

The Walgreens slated for the intersection of Morris, Maple, and Meisel Avenues officially started construction this week with the site's groundbreaking on Thursday, Dec. 20.

Representatives of Springfield's business community and government joined the property owners in the ceremonial groundbreaking.

Just what we need, two psudo department stores with overpriced merchandise across the street from each. Also, can't wait for the traffic nightmare to begin.

Really? When did they slip this one by us. Was it brought to the township's residents for discussion by the planning board or was it another back room deal by our politicians without full consideration of the impact on the quality of life of those living in the area? Was a traffic study done? Traffic at that major intersection is already problematic with the BP station. I can't tell you how many times drivers in the left turn only lane go straight causing accidents or near misses as well as those stopping abruptly to turn into the gas station. Imagine that compounded by those wanting to turn into Walgreens. I can't even imagine where the driveway would be placed as any direction will be problematic including coming around Maple Ave. from Meisel. God save us from the foolish decisions the politicians continue to make in this town.

Are you related to Doug and Wendy Whiner ? You big cry babies ! A big empty dirt lot was much better for the town. Why don't you move out so we can keep making positive change instead of what has been done in the past !

No wonder there are so many accidents. I suggest you check again. The left hand lane on Springfield Avenue at the Morris Avenue light is a left turn only lane. The middle lane is the left turn and straight lane. You must be one of the many in the far left turn only lane causing the accidents.

To stop complaining so much: Sorry, but take a look at the signage...it is quite clear that the left hand lane is left turn only, center lane left or straight ahead. Not only have I avoided being hit by being vigilant, I was also not so fortunate one time by someone making the left lane turn but then veering into the right lane. That entire intersection is a nightmare, and despite lane markings and signage at the intersection of Maple and Morris, how many left hand turns are being made off of Morris? Too many.
