Yo-Delight Serves Up More Than Just Froyo

Does the mild weather have you in the mood for a frozen treat? If so, you've got a new option.

Springfield's newest entry to the frozen dessert scene, Yo-Delight, opened Wednesday. Located at 901 Mountain Ave., inside Echo Plaza, the shop serves up plenty more than just froyo.

A popular beverage in Manhattan, Bubble Tea, which co-owner Kris Brus likened to a smoothie, containing cooked tapioca balls, green tea and assorted flavors, is available. Speaking of smoothies, they're on the menu as well and can be infused with protein powder to the delight of the members of Yo-Delight's neighbor, No Body Denied. Crepes, adorned with chocolate or berries, and waffles are also Yo-Delight specialties of the house.

Brus said he and his partner, Ed Campbell, look forward to adding to the menu and are open to suggestions from their customers, particularly, the young ones.

"You have to listen to the kids," Brus said. "They know what they want and they know what's going on."

Though they've only been open for two days, the new owner said thus far the response from the local community has been great. Brus said he booked three birthday parties on opening day. Yo-Delight's party room, featuring X-Boxes and iPads, can accommodate up to 30, and ideally should be reserved three weeks in advance when possible, Brus added.

During its soft opening phase, the store will be open from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Brus said Yo-Delight will stay open 30 minutes later than Outback to cater to diners looking for different dessert venue.

Though the franchise owners are aware of the stiff competition within the froyo market today, Brus said he believes three things set his business apart: People, Product and Process.
"We believe in our product and our process," he said. "We want to keep people, and our employees, happy. We have a great lay-out. It's dynamite."

Yo-Delight is hiring. Those interested are asked to please call Kris at 908-217-9685 or Ed at 908-507-0524. For the latest news and sweet deals, visit the shop's Facebook page.
