Why do I have to keep vacuuming my new carpet? Is it defective?

Dear Carpet Girl,

The new carpet I recently purchased, is shedding - I find that I constantly have to vacuum it.  Is this normal?  Is it defective?

No, carpet (especially loops), when cut, will appear to shed or have loose strings.  Installation teams do their best to clean up during & after a project, but often there are loose pieces that are missed.  A new carpet may appear to shed for several days after its installed. If there is a string, CUT- do not pull, and be careful not to vacuum "the attached strings". (they could get wrapped around the beater brush - causing a run that can not be repaired) If a pull occurs, it is not covered under the warranty.  The right relationship with your flooring store is key... call them, they may like to send the installation team back out to see if there is something wrong with the carpet.  Check with your store, there are vacuums that aggravate the issue & void warranties.

I hope this answered your questions, Enjoy the new carpet!
