AAA Announces Safety Program for Teens

Event will be held on Feb 17.

The Springfield branch of the American Automobile Association has announced a safety course aimed at teenagers. Noting that car crashes are the leading cause of death among 16- to 19-year olds, AAA New Jersey is hosting a Dare to Prepare workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 7- 9 p.m. at AAA Springfield.

Dare to Prepare is an interactive workshop where families can learn about topics relating to teen driving that may not be covered in traditional driver's education programs.  Highlights of the 90-minute, interactive session include a comprehensive overview of New Jersey's GDL, parents' roles and responsibilities and practical tips for teaching teens to drive.

"Dare to Prepare targets the issues that families face as the teen driver moves from the passenger seat to the driver's seat," AAA traffic safety specialist Ed Baginski said in a release.  "Parents and teens are encouraged to attend the workshop together as it's intended to raise teens' awareness of traffic safety issues and increase parental involvement in the critical learning-to-drive process."

Dare to Prepare is meant as a supplementary program to facilitate early discussion of driving safety issues between parents and teens.

The event costs $20 per family. Registration includes a complimentary copy of AAA's Driver-ZED 3.0 DVD which teaches teens auto safety through live-action scenarios.

To register, please call the New Jersey Automobile Club at (973) 245-4860 or email jdemby@njac.aaa.com
