Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 22

School's out, roads are clear, Tai Chi is in and more...

  1. Students have some more free time than usual this week. All of Springfield's schools will have early dismissal today, Tuesday and Wednesday for parent teacher conferences. Then schools are off on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.
  2. Great news for motorists: all of Union County's road repairs in Springfield are completed. Enjoy driving around the Township congestion free.
  3. Springfield's Township Committee meets tomorrow night at Town Hall. The agenda isn't available yet, but some information on one ordinance—the repeal of the separate sewer bill—is available now. 
  4. Looking to avoid oncoming holiday bloat? The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Union County is offering a free class called "Bringing Vegetables to the Table." The class, timed surely as a cool-down from Thanksgiving, will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the County services building in Westfield (300 North Avenue East). There is no fee but pre-registration is required by contacting Digna Torres at the Extension, 908-654-9854 or dtorres@ucnj.org.
  5. The offers arthritis sufferers a unique way to alleviate their pain through Tai Chi. Classes are held every Monday from 11 am to noon. Call 973-467-0838 for more information.
