Photos: Alvin Terrace, One Year Later

Neighbors enjoy their homes a year after storm.

Pat Sullivan, a resident of Springfield's Alvin Terrace, sent Patch pictures of their inaugural block party on Saturday, August. While it's always heartening to see neighbors get along, the party had more significance than a simple get together.

Alvin Terrace was one of the streets hardest hit by 2011's Tropical Storm Irene. For Sullivan and her neighbors, the party was a symbol of their ability to rebuild their homes and resume their lives.

"As I am sure you remember, the homes on our street were badly damaged by Hurricane Irene last August," Sullivan wrote. "It is now 1 year later and our small neighborhood has 'risen from the ashes like the phoenix.'"
