Shovel the Steps, Then Send Us Your Photos

Let us know what is open, canceled.

Road crews are busy plowing streets throughout Springfield this morning in the wake of last night's storm.

Department of Public Works Supervisor Ken Homlish told us Saturday that main roads are the priority, and then once they're clear, crews will work on plowing internal streets and clearing walkways in front of town properties.

We don't have any official figures as to how much snow fell, so send us your measurements! We're well short of the amounts being recorded in southern Jersey, where some areas reported 24 inches.

We're also looking for your help letting us know what is open, particularly gas stations, pharmacies, convenience stores and groceries.

And drop us a note if you find particular areas in the township that are still a difficult drive.

The National Weather Service says it will be a cold Sunday, with highs only in the 20s, but the snow should be over.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation reports no serious traffic accidents and all major roads are open, including the parkway, although they advise motorists to use extreme caution given the potential for icy spots, and to allow extra time to reach your destination. All three New York area airports are open, but many airlines have canceled or delayed flights, so call ahead if you're considering traveling by plane today.

New Jersey Transit is showing delays on several rail lines due to the weather. Check here to see their latest updates. Buses in particular are facing delays, due to snow on residential streets. The transit system is cross-honoring rail and bus passes.

Saturday night, driving was hazardous. Patch contibutor Lois Cantwell reported that the road from Millburn to Springfield was slick and slippery. She filed the photos at right.
