Springfield FD Take on Sha'arey Shalom in Softball Tomorrow

Charity game pits temple goers against firefighters.

and the are inviting township residents to grab a lawn chair and come out for a night of softball on Wednesday.

Temple Sha’arey Shalom is hosting a charity softball game against the Springfield Fire Department at 6:30 p.m. at the Springfield Pool Field on Morrison Road in Springfield.

Proceeds from the event will help support Springfield H.O.P.E, the Fire Department’s designated charity and the Temple’s educational programs.

“We are excited to be able to participate in this charity softball game to help raise money for Springfield HOPE and Temple Sha'arey Shalom, two wonderful organizations here in Springfield,” Firefighter Joseph Popolo, President of FMBA Local 57, said in an email.

Temple co-President and TEAM TSS coach Felice Schneier said the temple members were looking forward to playing the Fire Department and hoped for a sizable turnout in the stands.

"It’s a great way to spend a warm, spring evening," Schneier said. "The SFD is in for a great game—I hope they’re ready for us!” 

Admission is $5 per person, with kids under five free. Prizes will be raffled off and snacks and refreshments from J&M Curbside Café and .  Music and audio services are being generously donated by DJ Music Unlimited of Springfield, www.newjerseysbestdj.com.  For more information, call the temple office at (973)379-5387 or email office@shaarey.org.  A rain date is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6.
