Springfield Week in Review

A look back at the stories that shaped the township.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, March 19, an armed man . near the Union border. Springfield police say the man pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at an attendant shortly after the attendant finished gassing up a car. The gunman demanded that the attendant hand over all the money he had on him and then led him at gunpoint to the station’s convenience store area. The robber demanded that the employee working behind the counter give him the money from the register. In addition to the cash, the suspect also reportedly stole lottery tickets and several cigars before fleeing from the store on foot. He was last seen running south on Meisel.

The Springfield Library celebrated the this week. Special guests included Congressman Leonard Lance who donated an American flag that flew over the United States Capitol. Union County Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella presented a resolution congratulating the library on 80 years of service. Springfield Mayor Ziad Shehady remembered how spent hours enjoying the library as a student.

The co-chairs of the 2012 Cranford Promise Walk for Preeclampsia have a . Stephanie Steiner and her 12-year-old daughter Marissa are leading the effort to bring awareness and support of the potentially fatal pregnancy disorder, a disease that threatened both their lives during Marissa’s birth. The Steiners are looking to raise funds and awareness for the run, to be held on May 19.
