New weekly column lays out what's happening (and, in TWO cases, not happening) this week in Springfield.

Monday

Millburn hosts the first meeting of the Mayors’ Council on Rahway River Watershed Flood Control on Monday, Nov. 28. The new mayors’ council seeks to work together toward mitigation of flooding in towns along the Rahway River, which was made worse by and highlighted by damages sustained in those towns.

Tuesday

Springfield’s Township Committee does not meet this week. This year, the Springfield Township Committee meets during the first four Tuesdays of each month. Nov. 29 will be the fifth Tuesday in November.

Wednesday

visits on Nov. 30 to talk about espionage strategies employed by the British and Americans forces during the Revolutionary War. Topics range from ciphers and codes to invisible ink.

Thursday

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders holds their on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 7 pm at the Freeholders’ Meeting Room in Administration Building of 10 Elizabethtown Plaza on the 6th Floor in Elizabeth. The meeting is open to the public. Also on Thursday, Sarah Bailey hosts its four-times-a-month at 11 a.m. All Township seniors are invited.

Friday

Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School puts on their fall musical, "Alice in Wonderland," this weekend. Curtains open for the first time on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and there is another show on Saturday, also at 7:30 p.m.* Also, Jonathan Dayton High School hosts a sports bonfire to psych up students for the coming winter sports program.

UPDATE: We have been informed that the bonfire has been rescheduled until Tuesday, Dec. 13. 

Saturday

Springfield holds its monthly . Bring your unwanted electric appliances to the Municipal Pool.
