Historic Cannon Ball House Retraces Holiday History

See the house dressed up for the holidays and learn how it got its name.

Springfield’s Historic Cannon Ball House, located at 126 Morris Ave., will host a holiday open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.

Visitors will learn how the home got its name as well as see the house decorated for the holiday season and learn about the origins of some Christmas traditions.

Some of Wellington Briant's Civil War letters, describing attempts by the Union army to capture Charleston, S.C., will also be displayed. Two of these letters contain references to the 54th Massachusetts, the African American regiment depicted in the film 'Glory.'  This will be the last chance to view Wellington Briant’s letters from 1863, before they are replaced with his 1864 correspondence.

Refreshments will also be served.

House Admission: $2 for adults, free for children 12 and under. For more information call (973) 376 4784.
