ANNOUNCEMENTS

- As you may know, I announced my candidacy for Springfield Township Committee.  The November 8th election is just around the corner.  To read my Announcement Letter or for more information about my platform, visit my website at www.vote4z.com.  Last year, about 50 votes decided the election and I am running an even more aggressive campaign this year.  I need your support!  If you would like to help my campaign, please consider making a donation through my website at www.vote4z.com or by placing a lawn sign at your home.  Thank you to everyone who has already offered support.

COMMUNITY

- Township Committeeman Marc Krauss and his wife, Julie, are inviting Springfield parents and their kids for a Play Date in the Park.on Sunday, September 18th from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Chisholm Park Playground.  Juice boxes and snacks will be provided. Click here for the invitation.  Pass along this invitation to fellow parents.

-  The Springfield Farmers Market is still running until October 31st every Monday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.  It has relocated to Ruby Field off Caldwell Place.

-  The Regional Health Department is offering Seasonal Flu Inoculation Clinics.  They will be in the Springfield Municipal Building on Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will administer flu shots on a first come, first serve basis.  They are also offering Free Pneumococcal and Meningitis Vaccines by appointment if you call 908-789-4070.

GOVERNMENT

-  The Township Committee is having a regularly scheduled meeting tonight, Tuesday, September 13th at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.  Unfortunately, Mayor Hugh Keffer has allowed the Springfield Patriot television channel to become stagnant and out-of-date, so if you are unable to attend, you can watch the meeting live on my website and it will be archived for viewing later at your convenience.  For your information, I have posted tonight's Agenda online. Click here to view it.

-  The Township Committee will be holding a Public Hearing on the adoption of the 2011 Budget for the Special Improvement District.  The Special Improvement District was a project I worked with Committeeman Jerry Fernandez to start last year that would fix our downtown.  It is a State designation that compels businesses to make necessary improvements at no cost to residential taxpayers.  This was first used in Cranford and is implemented by hundreds of municipalities around the State - it is our best and only hope for a downtown we can be proud of.

- There is a final reading of a $2,253,000 Bond Ordinance that includes various purchases like a fire truck, new vehicles, communication equipment and technology equipment.
