Springfield FD wasteful tax burdened spending...

Question-why does our Fire Chief drive a gas guzzling, take home silver Tahoe without any FD markings that was an unnecessary purchase to begin with? We had several adequate vehicles (a newer Dodge Dakota already part of the fleet would be just fine for our Chief), but NOOOO he had to have the latest and greatest man toy. We did not need to spend thousands on a vehicle FDNY would envy....with thousands in emergency lights, windows tinted like an undercover police vehicle, excessive to say the least. WHO IS MONITORING OUR SPENDING Vs NEED? We, as residents, need to email our elected officials, attend town council meetings and ask them to look into how our FD has become a salary top heavy dept while at the same time slower than towns like Kenilworth, who cover their town on an all volunteer basis without a safety issue...check out NJ.COM often and ask yourself these questions; Can we lower our tax burden? Yes we can and a part time paid FD would begin to accomplish just that without a safety or insurance risk.  Another question, "same old same old" that the lumbering relic says is "OK" is costing our town MILLIONS in unnecessary tax spending...Can we really afford a system with no savings end in sight? Taxes to just keep increasing year after year when we are already among the highest in the nation? This is not a choice but a necessity, the need to reduce our spending and actually see a tax reduction for once. Small, departments like Springfield, Summit and the like are very slow fire wise and can be managed via Part time paid with MILLIONS in savings. The public has no clue just how expensive and outmoded these departments really are. There is a better way and small towns like Springfield in NJ and across the country are already utilizing the outlined Part Time model without life safety risk at real, huge savings.
