Fire Department Responds to 151 Incidents in July

The department provided mutal aid in three incidents during the month.

It was a busy July for the Springfield Fire Department.

The department responded to a total of 151 incidents during the month, bringing the year-to-date total to 927, according to its Facebook page.

The nature of the calls is as follows:

Notable incidents are outlined on the page:

July 2nd – Unit 1 and Engine 4 (Tour 3) responded to a Fieldstone residence for a reported oven fire. Engine 4 crew found the fire was confined to the container. The thermal imaging camera was used to check for extension, results were negative.

July 3rd – Engine 4 (Tour 4) responded to Plainfield Fire Headquarters for a mutual aid cover assignment.

July 3rd – Engine 3 (Recall) responded to a Fieldsteone reported oven fire. Engine 3 crew found the fire was confined to the container. A resident was treated for a burn injury. Engine 3’s fan was used to remove the smoke.

July 5th – Engine 4 (Tour 1) responded to a South Springfield Avenue residence a trash fire. The fire was started by illegal fireworks.

July 5th – Unit 1 and Rescue 1 (Recall) responded to Route 78 East for a vehicle roll over with extrication. Springfield was assisted by the Summit and Millburn Fire Departments.

July 7th – Engine 4 (Tour 4) responded to Meisel and Owaissa Avenues for a transformer explosion. The explosion was caused by a tree limb falling onto the wires. The resulting power outage caused false fire alarm activations along Morris Avenue.

July 8th – Unit 1 and Engine 4 (Tour 1) responded to a Nelson Place residence for a toast oven fire. The fire was out on arrival. Engine 4 checked the oven and surrounding counter top area. 

July 10th – Engine 4 (Tour 3) responded to a vehicle fire on Route 24 in Summit. Summit and Millburn Fire Department extinguished the vehicle fire. Springfield Engine 4 assisted with the brush fire caused by the burning vehicle.

July 11th – Engine 4 (Tour 4) responded on a mutual aid assignment into Plainfield for the 3rd Alarm building fire.

July 17th – Engine 4 (Tour 2) responded to a Mountain Avenue parking lot for a vehicle fire. The fire was controlled with a portable fire extinguished.

July 20th – Engine 4 (Tour 1) responded to a North Trivett location for a smoke condition in the basement. Engine 4 crew found a short circuited electrical outlet. The electrical hazard was removed.

July 26th – Engine 3 (Tour 3) responded to Hillside Avenue for trash burning in the roadway.

July 27th – Engine 3 (Tour 4) responded to a Wabeno Avenue apartment complex for a mulch fire. The fire was controlled with a portable fire extinguisher. The fire was caused by a discarded cigarette.

July 29th – Engine 3 (Tour 2) responded to a Meisel Avenue residence for a brush fire. The fire was controlled with a hoseline and the area was overhauled.

July 29th – Engine 3 (Tour 2) responded on a mutual aid assignment into Cranford for the 3rd Alarm building fire. A Springfield Firefighter suffered a minor injury. He was treated and release from the hospital.
