Investors Bank Robber Remains At Large Following Midday Heist

Man handed the bank teller a note indicating he was wearing a bomb.

Investors Bank was robbed shortly after noon Wednesday by a man who presented a teller with a handwritten note indicating he was wearing a bomb and demanded money, police said.

The robber, who remains at large, was alone and described as black, in his mid 30's to early 40's, about 6'3" in height, weighing 200-220 lbs. and cleanshaven, Springfield Police Det. Judd Levenson said. The amount of money taken is not being disclosed, Levenson added.

The robber entered the bank, located at 193 Morris Avenue, at the intersection of Linden Avenue, along the border with the Township of Millburn, and grabbed a deposit slip from a counter in the lobby area and walked up to a teller window placing the deposit slip and a handwritten note in front of the teller.

"The note indicated the suspect had a bomb on and demanded money be placed in a plastic bag he handed to the teller," Levenson said. "The suspect fled the bank and was gone prior to the police arrival. No individuals inside of the bank were injured during this robbery and aside from the note, no weapon was shown."

Springfield and Millburn police officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the robber. Detectives are viewing surveillance footage from many external cameras at businesses and the adjacent General Greene Shopping Center located near the bank, Levenson said.

The robber was wearing a black pullover crew neck sweatshirt, a black knit winter-type watch cap and faded or stone washed denim jeans. He did not wear any mask during the robbery, Levenson said.

Anyone with information or who happened to be in the area and may have observed the robber running from the bank is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 973-376-0400.
