Police Charge Newark Man With Hindering Apprehension

Officers Anthony Reimer and Ercan Sidar observed a 2002 Mercury SUV parked in the lot of TGI Friday's Restaurant and a small side window of the vehicle was broken out.

When the officers checked the license plate on the vehicle they found it was registered to a 1994 Pontiac sedan. When the operator, Jaliyl Norman, age 37, of Newark, was asked about the license plates not matching the vehicle he claimed he had not yet registered it and borrowed the plates from a friend.

When asked for ID, Norman claimed to have left his wallet at home and gave verbal identity information while also claiming he had a valid driver license in the State of Alabama. After checking on the variety of different ways he spelled his name and finding none of them had an Alabama driver license Norman's true identity was given and he was found to have a suspended NJ driver license. He was arrested for Hindering His Own Apprehension for giving various false names and dates of birth so his true identity could not be discovered. The reason he gave false identity information to the officers was due to three active warrants for his arrest issued by the Irvington Municipal Court. He was later turned over to the Irvington Police Department.
