On Dec. 1, Patch visited the site of the murder as a neighbor was dropping off a note in memory of the victim. The neighbor, who did not want to identify himself called the media attention "disgusting." "A man is dead," he said. He also said that cautioning locals to lock doors and windows was unnecessary. "This is a safe neighborhood."

The note read, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can and Wisdom to know the difference."

On the ground in front of the entry door to the deli were a smattering of plants, flowers, another note and a statue of the Virgin Mary.
