Police Officer Kevin Gilchrist Honored

Public safety director confers first Public Safety Director's Award for Valor.

At the Springfield Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 14, Department of Public Safety Director Richard G. Rosell, awarded Police Officer Kevin Gilchrist with the Department of Public Safety Director's Award for Valor.

Gilchrist was praised for his exemplary work disarming a potentially dangerous situation. As Rosell recounted at the meeting, Gilchrist responded to a report of an emotionally disturbed man armed with a knife. Gilchrist was able to disarm the man without harming him or others, and later helped the man get appropriate treatment instead of arresting him.

Elected officials and members of the public stood and applauded as Rosell handed Gilchrist the award. Gilchrist is the first recipient of the award.
