9/11 Memorial Observance Opens Township Committee Meeting

Mayor David Amlen proclaimed Sept. 11 Patriot Day, a national day of service and remembrance.

An invocation delivered by Springfield Presbyterian Church Pastor Rev. Victoria Ney began Tuesday's Township committee meeting.

Ney read a non-denominational reflection from Temple Sha'arey Shalom and said that while we may never make sense of the actions that took place on Sept. 11, 2001, we must ask God for comfort and peace in our world.

Deputy Mayor Richard Huber, his voice shaking with emotion, reminded residents that he was in the World Trade Center towers on the day of the attacks and said that despite the years that have passed, thinking about the events of that day never becomes any easier.

Mayor David Amlen read a proclamation declaring Sept. 11 Patriot Day, a national day of service and remembrance. Amlen encouraged residents to give of themselves in the spirit of those who came to the aid of others on that day 12 years ago.
