FEMA Representatives Urge Hurricane Victims to Register

Grants, loans and other assistance offered through Small Business Administration and FEMA.

FEMA, Congressional aides and Small Business Administration representatives told Springfield residents whose homes were damaged in Hurricane to register with FEMA and to apply for all assistance available.

Survivors of Hurricane Irene in every New Jersey county who suffered damage should apply for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency – even if they have insurance or aren’t sure they are eligible.

The first and most critical step is to register with FEMA.

They have not set up a disaster assistance center for Union County yet, but information about how to contact them on the web, through email and over the phone is below.

Register by phone at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585 for those with hearing or speech impairments. Specialists are standing by at the toll-free numbers seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time, until further notice. Help in other languages is available. Or you can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov. You can also apply through a web-enabled mobile device or smartphone by visiting m.fema.gov and following the link to “apply online for federal assistance.”

The mobile office events are free and open to members of the public. Union County residents with questions can contact Lance’s Westfield district office by calling 908-518-7733. Lance's office urges constituents to contact the office by phone, as website contact goes through their DC first and they don’t want our constituents to experience any unnecessary delays.
