Springfield Mayor Hugh Keffer, who is running for re-election as a member of the Springfield Township Committee, has announced that Deputy Mayor David Amlen and Township Committeeman Richard Huber will be serving jointly as his campaign managers.

In announcing his campaign, Keffer said, “I am proud of the progress the Committee has made this year.  We doubled the number of meetings. We regularly have all Department managers appear in order to answer resident questions and update us on the progress of departmental goals. We even began broadcasting our meetings on public access television in order to give residents more opportunities to know what is going on in town. I am asking voter to re-elect me so that I may continue to build on the progress we made this year.”

Huber praised Keffer for his leadership behind the scenes.  “Much of what we have accomplished this year, in appointing a new Police Chief, in adding a firefighter to our Fire Department and in expanding shared services, is the result of Hugh’s ability to work with people and build consensus.”  Amlen agreed, pointing out that “the Mayor helped guide our budget process, allowing us to eliminate the sewer tax established last year while still reducing the tax increase for all of our taxpayers.”

Keffer is serving his first term on the Township Committee and has previously been a member of the Springfield Planning Board, where he served as Vice-chairman, as well as a member of the Springfield Board of Education.  He has resided in Springfield for more than 23 years, has been a member of St. James Church since about 1983 and a member of the Springfield Lions Club for 15 years.  Hugh and his wife, Maggie, a Springfield native, have three children, all of whom have attended the Springfield Public Schools.

A magna cum-laude graduate of Seton Hall Law School, Keffer served as the Hillside Municipal Prosecutor for 5 years and is Vice-president and Associate Counsel of Fidelity National Title Insurance Company.
