Mayor Keffer Releases FEMA Update

Springfield Mayor reacts to Union County getting left off list of disaster areas.

The Star Ledger has reported that FEMA failed to include Union County in its list of counties eligible for federal disaster assistance.  We called the County as well as our neighboring Mayors along the Rahway River to put together a coalition to demand action.

The result is a letter to Governor Christie. A copy of the letter can be found at this link: FEMA Letter to Christie.  We understand from speaking with the County Manager's office that we will be included as soon as FEMA tours Union County which is expected to be by Tuesday of next week.

Even though we are not officially approved, the county advises federal authorities will accept applications for disaster assistance now.  Residents may begin the application process by going to www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.

FEMA will take your name and some basic information to get the process started. Once Union County is officially on the list, they will take the application through to completion.
