Mayor Keffer's Update for Tuesday, Nov. 1

Springfield Mayor on utilities and township services.

I’ve been communicating with JCP&L and they tell me that they have restored power to about 50 percent of their customers affected by the snowstorm.  JCP&L has assured us that we should see significant improvements in town tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. They continue to estimate that they will restore power to all residents by the end of Friday. The Governor has said that he will keep them to that commitment. We have had reports around town of power coming back on so thankfully there is some progress.

DPW has begun working across the whole town for leaf and brush cleanup. Once done with the lower areas DPW will do the mountain top area. We are doing it in this order specifically to give JCP&L time to work toward  power restoration at the top.

We’ve added extra Police patrolling to areas that have no power for additional security. Also, the Fire department has received about a dozen calls to pump out basements due to sump pump failures.  If you need the Police Department call 973-376-0400. If you need the Fire Department call 973-912-2265.

The school district is offering access to the after school program at no cost until the power problems are corrected. The after school program is available until 6:00pm and provides a warm environment for the students. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Tim Kielty, Principal Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School (973) 376-1025 (x1223) or email tkielty@springfieldschools.com

I’ll continue to update you as I get more information.
