Pool Renovations to be Completed in Time for 2014 Season

A new bond ordinance was passed to enable work to begin.

Renovations to the Springfield Community Pool will be completed in time for the 2014 season it was announced at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

The committee approved a bond ordinance that will allow the first phase of the project to begin as soon as possible. This portion of the renovation includes tile work, concrete repairs, painting and sandblasting.

The second part of the project will consist of the replacement of the filtration system and can be completed over the winter.

The funding for the renovations was included as a line item in the 2013 capital budget but Mayor David Amlen explained that the wording of the original bond ordinance pass earlier this year was not broad enough to allow for the first phase of the work to begin.

"The idea is to get everything done before the pool opens," Sam Mardini, assistant township engineer, said.

Deputy Mayor Richard Huber expressed his concern that the work wrap up before the pool's 2014 opening, "I don't want anyone inconvenienced," he said.
