Rosell Recommends Cook for Chief

Cook would be first Chief for Springfield force since April, 2009.

Springfield Public Safety Director Richard Rosell has recommended that Police Captain John Cook, the Officer in Charge of Springfield's Police Department, be promoted to Chief of Police. 

Cook, a 23-year veteran of the Springfield Police Department, has led the department since November of 2010. He was the first officer in charge of the department after several months of leadership by . The Prosecutor's Office assumed control of the department after the previous officer-in-charge, Captain Peter Davis,. 

Rosell was in part to select a police chief. According to a statement on the recommendation, the process started in January of this year and ended in early July.

In a statement, Rosell said Cook was selected from a group of four superb candidates. The Township Committee will address the recommendation at their next scheduled meeting on August 9, 2011.
