School Board Accepting Applications For New Member

Starting this week, the Springfield Board of Education has begun accepting applications for new board members.

Board Vice President Donato Circelli announced his resignation from the board earlier this month, creating a vacancy on the elected body that steers Springfield’s school system.

Applicants need to have letters of interest in to the board no later than Nov. 30. The letters are required to include an explanation for why the applicant wants to be on the board; the explanation is not to exceed 50 words in length.

Prospective board members are required to be literate, have lived in Springfield for two years and be over 18.

The school board plans to interview applicants at their Dec. 7 meeting. The successful candidate, who must gain a majority of votes from the board to be appointed, is planned to join the board by their Dec. 21 meeting.

According to state law, the board has 65 days to fill the vacancy before the County Executive Superintendent appoints a replacement. The full letter from the board is available on their Web site.
