JDHS Blood Drive Today

Roll up your sleeves for a good cause.

Today until 3:30 p.m., Jonathan Dayton High School hosts a blood drive.

In a recent press release, NY/NJ Blood Services—who organized the blood drive—called for type O-negative due to high demand from regional hospitals. Found in just 6 percent of the population, types O-negative are known as universal donors. It's used in transfusions for newborn babies and pregnant women, and also for premature babies in ICU. Interestingly, 15% of regional blood collection comes from high schools and colleges, so please come out and become part of the statistic.

Walks in are welcome, although scheduled appointments are preferred. For more information, contact Mary Cokeing at mcokeing@springfieldschools.com or sign up online through NJ Blood Services. NJBS needs about 120,000 blood donors annually which takes over 250 drives each month.
