Saint James the Apostle School Preps for Catholic School Week

Open houses, a spelling bee, and a book fair are some of the events planned.

Saint James the Apostle School in Springfield begins celebrating Catholic Schools Week Sunday.

Open houses will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The theme for Catholic School Week is “Catholic Schools – Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”

"This designated week is an opportunity for Catholic schools throughout the country to showcase the unique educational experience they provide while celebrating their identity as students, faculty, staff, administration and parents," school officials stated. "Catholic schools, like Saint James the Apostle, take pride in their educational achievements that take place with the framework of the Gospels and the Church."

Catholic Schools Week at Saint James will feature a week of fun-filled, education-oriented activities aimed at energizing and inspiring the entire school community.

This year's events include:

  • sandwich making for the needy
  • a school-wide spelling bee
  • the making of faith-themed crafts
  • the presentation of Living Biographies by the Seventh Grade
  • a school-wide International Day on Friday.

Events are planned and organized by faculty and staff.  The Home School Association will be sponsoring their Scholastic Book Fair during the week as well.

Saint James the Apostle, a Middle States Accredited School, is proud to offer a diverse range of academic programs, state of the art technology and enrichment classes, as well as a host of academic and athletic clubs.
