Dear Parents/Guardians,

We had a very successful first complete week of school. As per state
statute, we held the two required fire drills.  The teachers prepared
students on the opening days of school by reviewing fire drill procedures.
The fire drills reinforced our expectation that the students can exit the
building quickly, safely and appropriately if a fire emergency should arise.

With the new school year actively under way I want to remind parents to have
the conversation with their children regarding safety precautions and
behaviors when they are walking to and from school. Here are some guidelines
to share with your child(ren):

  •  If you are approached by anyone you do not know quickly move away and inform the nearest adult.
  • If the closest location is home, report home immediately and
  • notify your parents, and have them notify the police.
  • If the closest location is the school, please return and inform an adult.
  • If the closest person is a crossing guard, please get their attention and let them know the importance of the situation.

The safety of our students is a priority for all of us at Sandmeier School.

Enjoy the weekend-
Hillary Corburn
