Columbia Hoists Ivy League Men's Golf Championship Trophy For Third Straight Time

Penn's Scott Williams defeats Columbia's Clark Granum on first playoff hole to claim individual title at Baltusrol

Despite the cold and wet weather, the third time was a charm for Columbia.

Fresh off its stellar second round on Saturday, Columbia defeated Yale by three strokes, 890-893, at the 2010 Ivy League Men's Golf Championships on the famed Lower Course at Baltusrol Golf Club to claim its third consecutive Ivy League crown.

Columbia, after a championship-low 287 on Saturday, and Yale each shot a 14-over 294 on Sunday. Columbia finished the tournament with a 50-over, 890, while Yale came in second with a 53-over 893.

Last season, Columbia defeated Penn, 858-893, at the Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield.

Individually, Penn senior Scotty Williams used a terrific approach shot to within five feet of the pin to defeat Columbia's Clark Granum, in the first hole of a play-off for the Men's title at Baltusrol. The win marked only the second individual title ever for a Penn golfer since Michael Blodgett in 2008 at Galloway Golf Club in Galloway, N.J.

Granum, who was tied for fifth entering Sunday, shot a final round 67 to erase a six-stroke deficit to force a playoff.

Williams, who led after Saturday's round, shot a 3-over 73 to finish 4-over par (72-69-73 = 214) for the tournament.
