Dayton Varsity Tennis Season Wrap-Up

A look back on the 2010 Tennis Season

This season in Dayton Tennis was a season for reconstruction and improvement. Last year, the team lost five seniors and it was unclear if the team could bounce back for a successful season. Now, it's quite apparent there was no problem.

The season started off strong when Dayton shutout Arthur-Johnson 5-0 and then again against Union Catholic. At the Union Catholic match, sophomores Ross Konesky and Zac Corey proved their contribution to the team would not go unnoticed by only allowing a combined three games in the combined 27 games they played.

Who could forget Dan Karlin's match against Justin Synder of Westfield. Although he didn't come out on top, Dan did not get up and fought Synder for 30 games.

Matt Neubauer dominated and fought the good fight against New Providence and was the only Dayton player to win his matches both times Dayton played New Providence.

In the first match against New Providence, Dmitry Suvorov and Jason Condon played the longest match and even when things didn't look good for the duo, they kept played their hearts out right until the last serve.

David Pilmenstein is a great player. When asked of him, he delivers. When Ross Konesky was out, due to injury to his left calf, David took his place for three matches and finished with a 2-1 record.

Brandon Helfand is always optimistic and enthusiastic about the game. He never hesitates to take control of a match and do what he has to to come out victorious.

The 2010 proved to be a year for improvement and for great success and only shows promise for the season to come.
