Hadassah Holocaust Memorial at Springfield Library

Remembrance ceremony is led by Holocaust survivor.

The  Springfield Chapter of Hadassah held a regular meeting on Thursday, March 25, in the Springfield Public Library.

The meeting, devoted to Holocaust Remembrance, was led by Ms. Miriam Gershwin, a Holocaust survivor. The program included a significant candle lighting ceremony during which survivors lit six candles in memory of the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust.

Ms. Gershwin came to the United States in 1949 and moved to Springfield in 1950 to join her uncle, Morris Lichtenstein, owner of the Springfield Pharmacy on Morris Ave.  A chapter trustee, Miriam Gershwin was among the founders of both Springfield Hadassah and Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael.
